Early detection of cancer- How, which, when, why……….
It is a well known fact that cancer, when detected and treated in its early stage, is curable. The point is- how do we diagnose cancer in its early stage?
Fortunately, the most common cancers amongst men (colon and prostate cancer) and women (breast and cervical cancer) are amenable to screening and hence can be diagnosed in a very early stage.
What is screening ? It is testing oneself for presence of disease in abesnce of disease related symptoms. Once a person has developed symptoms, the tests performed are not screening in its true sense but an evaluation to confirm the presence or absence of disease.
